BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.64 percent to 4,108.57 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.23 percent higher at 14,088.84 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices totaled 2.39 trillion yuan (about 346.34 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 24.3 billion yuan from the previous trading day.

The sectors for power grid equipment, computing power leasing, and quantum technology led the gains, while stocks related to the seed industry and oil and gas sectors were among the major losers.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.66 percent to close at 3,216.94 points.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 1.78 percent higher at 1,748.53 points on Thursday.  ■
