PARIS, June 4 (Xinhua) -- World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka crashed out of the French Open on Wednesday, while qualifier Maja Chwalinska continued one of the tournament's most remarkable runs by advancing to the semifinals.

Russia's Diana Shnaider, 22, mounted a stunning comeback to beat the overwhelming title favorite Sabalenka 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 and will face Poland's Chwalinska in her first Grand Slam semifinal.

Sabalenka dropped the final 10 games of the match, suffering just her second Grand Slam quarterfinal defeat in her last 15 appearances at the majors.

"I don't know when was the last time that happened to me, that I lost 10 games in a row," said the Belarusian top seed. "I guess mentally I got into a very deep, dark hole over there, and I just couldn't get back mentally on track."

Ranked No. 114 in the world, Chwalinska defeated 22nd-seeded Anna Kalinskaya 7-6 (3), 6-3 to become just the second women's qualifier in the Open era to reach the French Open semifinals.

The 24-year-old's run has included victories over Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, 23rd-seeded Elise Mertens, former world No. 3 Maria Sakkari, France's Diane Parry and Kalinskaya.

"I honestly don't know what is going on," Chwalinska said. "Every single match here is kind of crazy for me. I'm very grateful."

"I'm happy it looks like I'm in control. I was definitely nervous, that's normal because I care so, I'm stressed, but I just focused on my game and my job, and I'm happy I managed to do that."

On the men's side, Italy secured a place in the final after two quarterfinals involving three Italian players produced very different outcomes.

Tenth-seeded Flavio Cobolli rallied from a set and a break-down to defeat fourth-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime in four sets, reaching his first Grand Slam semifinal.

Cobolli will next face fellow Italian Matteo Arnaldi, who advanced after opponent Matteo Berrettini retired because of a hip injury while trailing 7-5, 5-2.

"Hopefully the scans are going to be clear, and they can tell me what I have," Berrettini said.
