KATHMANDU, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Nepal's interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Monday urged citizens to actively participate in the parliamentary elections scheduled for March 5, calling the vote as an opportunity to shape their future and that of their children.

Addressing the nation ahead of the elections, Karki said public participation is crucial to steering Nepal toward political stability and economic prosperity.

"Casting your vote is not merely stamping an election symbol and securing victory for someone, but it is a decision about the future for yourself and your children," she said.

Nepal is holding fresh elections after the House of Representatives, the lower house, was dissolved following the unrest in the country last September.

The prime minister also urged political parties, candidates, and supporters to strictly observe discipline during the election silence period, which begins on Tuesday, and warned against the spread of misinformation and disinformation on social media.

The polls are going to elect 275 members of the House of Representatives.
